A lifelong interest in photography led to Mark becoming involved in sports photography. And as he says, "The practice of making someone look really good in a situation that they will want to share with others is fundamentally the same as wedding photography – despite the obvious aesthetic differences!"
For Mark, the most rewarding aspect of his work is when people view their proofs and realise how fantastic they looked on their wedding day. "They aren’t models, and aren’t used to being in front of a camera," he says. "But some flattering light, the right angle and an interesting background is often all it takes to create a shot that makes a person feel like a star."
Although Mark's very easy going, he's also energetic and has lots of traits that are helpful when photographing weddings: "I’m not afraid of a bit of hard work, running around, acrobatics or even contortion to get the shots I want!" he laughs.
Mark is very fond of the reportage style, capturing key moments as they happen, which he blends with the more formal group shots and some romantic photographs of the bride and groom. "I stay for the whole day at no extra cost in order to get the best coverage. I also like to try one new thing for every wedding so if I see a chance to experiment, I take it."
