Having worked as an award-winning press photographer for many years, Angus Blackburn has covered everything from royals to rogues. But when it comes to weddings he says that capturing and sharing special moments with people is the most satisfying aspect of his work. "Getting the decisive moment is the key to a good reportage photograph," he says. "I also understand how to make the light work for the most effective picture - light is, after all, the photographer's essential tool." Angus's style is free flowing with little in the way of formal posed shots; melting into the background is something he's used to. "A wedding photographer shouldn't be the focus of attention. My job is to be the messenger. And if couples are nervous I find a gentle, confident approach soon has them at ease." Angus usually has a pre-wedding chat with the couple to find out how they see their day taking place. "People book me on the understanding that I can provide them with a story of their wedding day and it's important to understand what their wishes are, to pick up on any details that might enhance the pictures being taken. The last wedding I covered involved taking the bride and groom on a ferry and depositing them on a rocky outcrop in Inverie Bay. We got some special pictures that day!"
