Alec Keeper’s photography is difficult to pinpoint, but giving it his
best shot (pun intended) he says the best way to describe his style is ‘sensitive’. “I allow events to unfold while looking for the best way to photograph them. I relish the challenge of capturing key moments.”
This style is more easily understood when you see his work – to do so turn to page 98. There is clearly a theme; each image is beautifully composed, dramatically lit and has an atmospheric, almost cinematic, quality. Alec sees potential photographs everywhere: “I love the art of looking at something, no matter what it is, and getting a great picture out of it,” he says. “A full wedding album offers a wee bit of social history, showing how people dressed, their hairdos, even what buildings looked like. This kind of album will always be interesting to look at.”
Alec’s laidback, sociable personality means he can help couples relax, so that it’s easier for them to be themselves. Relaxed he may be, but he’s ultra-organised when it comes to ensuring the day goes smoothly. “Preparing for a wedding is essential,” he says. “Visiting locations, meeting with co-ordinators and checking schedules is all part of the job. The photography is there to capture the day – not dictate it.”
