Niels and Alie Calvert are the team behind Blue Sky Photography. Niels’ career started by driving friends daft pointing a camera at them, followed by getting inundated with requests to photograph their weddings. It was a natural progression to formally train and then go professional. Alie’s own photography passion grew out of her naturally creative streak, and an attachment to Niels! “We both love creating images that tell a story,” Niels says, “from details to expressive shots.”

The couple’s number one asset (besides technical skills) is their outgoing personalities. “To get the best results we need to get to know our clients,” Alie says. “Many of our customers have become good friends, which is a huge privilege and a great perk of the job!” Blue Sky’s style is informal and natural, while also capturing key family groupings. “I hesitate to use the word reportage as it’s become such a buzzword, but we produce natural images that really capture the day. While we have a certain way of working, we always remain
flexible to fit in with the couple’s own ideas.” It’s not unusual to spot Niels in rather strange positions at work: “I’ve crawled on all fours
down the middle of country roads, straddled walls and even played with the buses on Princes Street in Edinburgh!”

Niels and Alie give couples what they’d expect from their photographers if they were getting married again. Which means offering brilliant photography, gorgeous albums (personally delivered!) and great service.
