Norman has spent twenty years in photography and the media, and draws
on this wealth of experience working with different people to help build a rapport with each couple. He likes to find out what makes them tick long
before the big day, telling Real Life Weddings that good photography relies on feeling relaxed with the photographer. “There are few people, except celebrities, who would say, ‘I love having my photo taken’,” he says.
If people are nervous or self-conscious, he finds that a simple shot walking hand in hand, or looking at each other, helps put them at ease. For Norman, the best thing about his job is being trusted to capture images that tell the unique story of a wedding day. “No two are ever the same,” he says, “and sharing in the joy and excitement is a privilege.” His style of photography is unobtrusive, mixing stunning bridal portraits with traditional family group shots and a good deal of relaxed reportage.
Ignoring the old adage of ‘never work with children or animals’, Norman has shot everything from disgruntled pageboys to Dalmatians at weddings, and says blankets and golf umbrellas are essential pieces of kit! “You may wish for a sunny day, but there’s no ‘off season’ for weddings.”
