Richard Craig
began taking
photos when
he got his
first camera
at the age of
15. "I learnt
photography
from both
school and
my dad,
and started
developing my skills from there," he says.
Although he has worked in fashion
photography, he feels most at home
photographing weddings. "I love to see the
range of expressions on people's faces and
the interaction that sparks between different
people within the wedding party. But the best
part of my job is the reaction I get when the
couple see their album; nothing beats that
feeling of satisfaction," he smiles.
As well as having an eye for a good shot,
Richard's personal skills help him in his work
too. "My laidback and relaxed attitude means
I can put nervous brides and grooms at ease.
I do a pre-wedding shoot to help them warm
to me and get them used to the camera. I also
help shape
the day itself,
ensuring
that it goes
exactly how
they want it
to."
He also
understands
that listening
to the
couple's
ideas is vital.
"Getting
my head
around the
type of day the couple is after enables me to
understand the kind of images they would like
to look back on. The photographs, whether
they are traditional, reportage, romantic or a
mixture, should bring back memories of the
day."
