It was a wedding that first got Roddy Mackay interested in photography, and then the invitation of some friends that got him to seriously consider it as a career. Now Roddy has an impressively diverse portfolio that has seen him travelling across five continents in search of engaging and inspiring images. As well as weddings, he works for newspapers and magazines, allowing him to develop a breadth of skills that help him undertake the adventures and challenges of shooting weddings.

Roddy told Real Life Weddings, “I love the variety of my work. Every day is different, as is every client, and that helps keep me on my toes, and means I offer a personal approach to whoever I may be photographing.” This approach is one his clients seem to appreciate; he’s been commissioned to cover weddings not just throughout Scotland but as far away as Alabama! He has received many accolades for his documentary work both in Scotland and abroad, and his press work saw him shortlisted for Scottish Young Photographer of The Year for the third consecutive year.

Roddy is about to return from his first assignment in South America, where he has been working on a project with street children in Lima. No matter which direction he points his camera, it’s people Roddy loves most.
