When the weather's good, the gardens at Cortes House are the perfect place to start a wedding reception, with drinks served on the lawn.

Cortes House owner, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, told Real Life Weddings that one of the most satisfying aspects of having such a beautiful venue is seeing how people who’ve attended weddings at Cortes want to come back for their own wedding, or even to renew their vows!

She says generally weddings take place in the huge atrium in front of a classical statue: "Light pours in from the domed ceiling, which lends an air of sophistication to the proceedings. As the bride and groom disappear down the palatial stairway all the onlookers are close enough to feel involved."

Some couples get married in the reception rooms, which have high ceilings and stunning Regency architecture – one even has a Monarch of the Glen painting looking down on the guests! But it's the atmosphere and luxury surroundings that make the venue really special, plus those little extras that make a stay memorable. "We can sleep up to 24 in ten gorgeous bedrooms," Gillian says.

"Most people take the house for more than one night so that they can enjoy all the extra facilities, such as the cinema room, the table tennis, the huge outdoor chess board..." In short, Cortes makes a splendid backdrop for an intimate wedding.
